It tells of Apollo’s love for Princess Leucotoe, daughter of the king of Babylon, who was kept segregated by her father inside his palace. In order to seduce her, Apollo secretly entered the rooms of the young woman who without delay abandoned herself to the love of the god. Clizia, however, a nymph in love with Apollo and rejected by him, informed the king of the incident that furiously he had his daughter buried alive. On the tomb of the young princess the rays of the sun penetrated until they reached the remains of the girl, who slowly transformed into a plant with an intense fragrance, with slender leaves and pale violet-blue flowers: Rosemary.
